Historical Remains

Ancient remains are remnants of human activity, the remains must have been created before 1850. Examples include graves, rocks with paintings, gathering places for justice and commerce, ruins of castles, church buildings and defense facilities.

An ancient remain should have been added before 1850 and it must be permanently abandoned. According to the Cultural Environment Act of Sweden, it is forbidden to tamper, remove, dig out, cover over or through building, planting or otherwise alter or damage an ancient remain without permission. Catch pits, iron production sites and chalets are some examples of ancient remains found in forestland. Other historical remains are remains that have been created after 1850 and are permanently abandoned.
